This summer, you
might want to think of ways to keep your air conditioning system efficiently functioning
for a long time before repairs have to be made. Otherwise you and your family
could be inconvenienced with a hot house for days on end. Remember that the
simplest way towards AC longevity is cleaning and maintenance, and here are
some simple tips that can help you achieve that:
Cleaning Debris
Make sure that the AC unit’s
housing is free of dirt, dust, and debris, because these could hamper its
function and make it harder for your unit to produce cool air. Dust it at least
once every week, and trim back grass, bushes, overhanging branches with leaves
and remove other things that might be littering your AC.
Lubricate
Every moving part of
your AC needs to be lubricated from time to time, otherwise there can be too
much friction buildup, thereby making your unit overheat or letting it expend
more energy to work. Check the valves, fans, motor and other mechanical
components and if they seem to be slowing down or are worn due to friction, place
some oil on their surface.
Cleaning Coils
Your AC’s condenser
and evaporator coils are important because they facilitate the removal or
exchange of heat from the outside air so that it’s cool by the time it gets
inside. Dirty coils mean increased energy consumption and premature wear and
tear.
